Dinner for One?

frozen Dinner for One?

Living by myself for the past year, I’ve had a lot of dinners for one. Frozen dinners, single serving pizzas, lunchables, pasta-in-a-bag type stuff. Anything that comes in a serving for one person. Well, maybe I just really love to eat, but these single serving things seem to only feed half of me. Especially these “Pizza for One” things that Totinos makes. I’m heating one up right now, and I feel like an 8 year old cooking in my Easy Bake Oven with this tiny pizza (even though I never had one of those things because I had no domestic instinct even as an 8 year old.)

So I always end up eating 2 single serving meals. Or the pizzas that are supposed to serve 4. Yeah, I eat the whole big fat thing. Nothing better than a 1200 calorie dinner! So do people really eat these single serving things and get full? Or do they just only let themselves eat a single serving because they want to lose weight? I think the companies just make them because they look cheap but then you have to eat 5 of them to get full so they really end up being pricier than a normal meal.

But when you live alone and eat alone every night, it’s like there’s some strange force that compels you to buy the single servings. Basically I think these jerks are taking advantage of our subconscious loneliness by putting “Dinner for One” on their packages. We see it and automatically think, “That’s me, so I better get that one. (Sigh.) Poor ‘dinner for one’ me.”

Love Song

lovesong 9 Love Song

I’ve been trying to make changes in my life recently. Trying to go back to the things that I used to love so much. Like acting, writing, going to cultural events. I really missed seeing plays, so I decided to go by myself to see the show at Cincinnati’s Playhouse in the Park on Thursday night. It was called Love Song, a play by John Kolvenbach, which sounded a little cheesy, but the description was intriguing so I thought I’d give it a try.

“Empty” by Ray LaMontagne

The song “Empty” from Ray LaMontagne’s album Till the Sun Turns Black is one of those songs that gets you from the inside out. His voice is always so sorrowful and full of depth, but this song especially touches me. Some of the lines in it just resonate with my emotions, and I think a lot of people who hear this will feel the same way.

Hurts to Purr

“I Didn’t Mean It” by Hurts to Purr. I think I’ve listened to it about 10 times today. I started listening to this band because of their name. I’ll pay attention to anything that has cat, purr, meow, hiss, paws, or something of that nature in the title. That’s why I first listened to and loved Cat Power, and that’s why Hurts to Purr caught my attention. Luckily I’ve found that cat-themed things usually turn out to be good. Their self-titled CD is incredible. It’s very different from a lot of the other indie bands I listen to, and the vocals are beautiful. Buy it on Amazon (by clicking here) because I couldn’t find it in any mainstream stores. Listen and love it.

It’s Not Glade, It’s Glah-DAY!

Photobucket

Apparently Glade is a big promoter of liars. First there was the terrible commercial with the woman inviting all her girlfriends over. But first she needs to light a candle. But, oh no! All she has is a cheap old Glade candle! So she has to peel the wrapper off and throw it away. She can’t have her country clubbing friends knowing she uses Glade candles! So they walk in, she tells them she has a luxurious French candle burning for their sniffing pleasure, yet (and I’m sure they expect you to just crack up at this) the wrapper is stuck on her butt! So they laugh at their poor, cheap, loser friend and say “Haven’t you ever heard of Glah-DAY” in their snobby rich voices. Oh how hilarious.  Watch it by clicking on Read More below.

Sharing a Love of Music

music notes Sharing a Love of Music

I think music is probably one of my first loves in life (right up there with myself and Bud Light). I love finding new artists and it makes my day when I find a new song that takes my breath away. I spend a good majority of my down time looking up music online and trying to discover new genres and styles. I thought I would share my two favorite sites for my past time in case anyone else is interested.  Check them out by clicking on Read More below!
