Veronika Decides to Die

veronika Veronika Decides to DieI was walking though a used book store and this book caught my eye. It had the word “die” on it, and any books with the words death, sadness, betrayal, madness, depression, etc. tend to get my attention. I like books with serious themes; it’s rare that I read something just for a good story. I need them to inspire my mind as well. Usually those types of books aren’t exactly about happiness and other positive emotions, because that’s just not realistic. Also, I believe that people learn far more through pain than any type of pleasure, therefore making these books leave a stronger impression.

Second Life Turns to Real Life

Second Life

A couple from Second Life is getting a divorce in real life. (Second Life is the online social network where you actually make up a person who looks like you and interact with other people through this make believe world. You do normal things like get a job, hang out with friends, and have sex with hookers…what? Yes, you heard me right! You can get a virtual hooker on Second Life.)

This woman found her husband’s online character hooking up with an online hooker…let me emphasize online. So she’s divorcing him online because he online cheated on her. I know, it’s all really confusing. Read the article if you want to attempt to understand these people:

Safe Trip Home

Dido’s
new CD, Safe Trip Home, comes out tomorrow and I previewed it on AOL Music. I have always loved her voice and her music. It’s very peaceful and she has such a distinctive voice. You know it’s her the second you hear it.

Here is my favorite song from the album so far, and I’m definitely going to buy it tomorrow. This song is called “Let’s Do The Things We Normally Do.” Her voice sounds so amazing. I really love her inflections. They really complete the feelings she’s trying to get across with the lyrics, which are also great.

You can download her whole album, or individual songs, online: Dido Safe Trip Home

I AM…SASHA FIERCE

Okay, are you kidding me Beyonce? You are now Sasha Fierce? I logged in to MySpace today and this banner was greeting me:

Photobucket

When asked about this new alter-ego, Sasha says: “That is my alter ego and now she has a last name.  I have someone else that takes over when it’s time for me to work and when I’m on stage, this alter ego that I’ve created that kind of protects me and who I really am.”

The Brown-Eyed Girl Epidemic

van morrison1 The Brown Eyed Girl EpidemicWhen you go to a bar, wedding, or any big event, there are certain songs that come on and set off a natural disaster to my ears of screams and high pitched singing. “Brown Eyed Girl” was released in 1967! Yet people are continuing to freak out every time it comes on. It doesn’t even matter if these girls have brown eyes, because if they don’t they grab the closest brown eyed girl and serenade her at the top of their lungs, along with obnoxious gestures…sometimes they even get down on their knees and really let them have it! There are also the girls who change the lyrics to their own eye color to feel that they belong, screaming out “green eyed girl” or “blue eyed girl” or whatever, making sure to say GREEN extra loud so everyone knows they are being clever and changing the words to their very own eye color!!! Then they crack up with their friends, hardly able to sing the words because they are SO creative.

Yes We Can!

Yesterday was THE proudest I have ever felt to be an American. I honestly haven’t had a lot of moments of pride during my 27 years in this country. But last night, I actually smiled, cried, and jumped for joy for my country. The energy was apparent in the air all day, and when Obama was elected president…I have never felt anything like it. I’m still a little bit speechless from everything that happened, but there is one story that touched me more than anything else.
