Oval’s Video for “Kastell”

Oval just released a video for their song “Kastell,” a song which, I have to admit, is not my style.  The video is simplistic as well, yet somehow, together, they are hypnotic.  I’m not sure if this video was edited to move with the music, or if they used the video as an inspiration, but it goes together so well it’s hard to believe they weren’t planned for one another from the beginning.

Back on Track

CulturePopped is finally back!  I’ve really missed the site and all the loyal readers I had gotten over time.  I hope people will come back and give the site another chance.  Spread the word, let people know that we’re up and writing once again!  I’m working hard to make the site even better than before.

Let me know what you want to see, tell me what you missed.  What made you love the old CulturePopped and what would you like to see on the new one?

It’s good to be back!

On “Vacation”

Dear CulturePopped Readers,

Everyone has probably noticed by now that the site is hardly updated, so I figured I would make an official announcement that CulturePopped will be taking a vacation for a while.  It’s gotten too hard to balance trying to make a living with something I do for free, and I’m going to have to concentrate on other efforts for a while.

I absolutely loved every minute I put into this site and I really hope to bring it back.  Unfortunately, this is something I do because I love it and I don’t make a cent from it, which makes it difficult to maintain.  It’s sad that our dreams have to be put on hold sometimes to pursue methods of getting to our dreams.  So until I can afford to spend as much time on it as it needs and deserves, I will have to put it on hiatus.

I haven’t quit writing, but I have to concentrate on my freelance work and getting published somewhere besides my own website.  Someday maybe I really will live the dream and be able to live off of this site which I love so much.

If you would like to be contacted when CulturePopped is back on track, please send your E-mail address to kiraussie@hotmail.com and I will add you to the list.  Thanks so much for your dedication.

Sincerely,

Kira Stegman

Crazy Cat Ladies

A documentary is being made about the crazy cat ladies of the world.  I don’t think I could ever watch it because I would cry for all these cats forced to live in what should be called a mental institution.  These people even admit that they hoard cats because they’re lonely.  So they claim to love the cats, but they’re really just giving them an awful life in an overcrowded, unsanitary home.

Some of these people say they do it to save the cats if they’re suffering in the outdoors.  That’s great, but there are shelters for those animals where they can get better care and then be adopted out to a loving family.  Taking them all on yourself is not healthy for them or the crazy cat ladies.  Yes, I will probably be a crazy cat lady someday, but only with 1 or 2 cats.

Thank goodness for the animal rescue people who go in and take those cats away.  Now we just need them to go in and deal with the Octomom.

The hour long documentary has already won some awards.  Go to their official site for bios of the cat ladies and more information about the documentary.

“I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here!”

capture Im A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here!

The number of reasons you should watch this show are more than I can count, so I’m going to let the quotes from the first two episodes speak for themselves.  Watch it every Monday through Thursday on NBC at 8pm EST.  Unfortunately Heidi and Spencer left on the second episode, but I have a pretty good feeling they’ll be back.

“Oh, now those are horses!” –Heidi

“Those are cows, honey.” –Janice Dickinson

“Is that a REAL monkey?!” –Heidi (Apparently having spent her entire life on a set, she doesn’t understand that in the REAL jungle, there are REAL monkeys.)

“That monkey’s laughing at us. Yeah, shut up monkey, we get it!” –Spencer

“That’s some way to embrace nature.” –Patti Blagojevich

“Unless he’s an endangered species, I don’t give a flying poop.” –Spencer

“I feel like everything in life just got taken from me…and not in a fun way.” –Heidi

“You just thought it would be easier?” –Spencer (when Heidi says she wants to leave the jungle)

“I don’t know. I just cannot not have sex with you for that long.” –Heidi

“This is almost, like, borderline torture. Like I would do this to Al Qaeda.” –Heidi

“I’m too rich and I’m too famous to be sitting here with these people and cleaning up their shit in the jungle, my man. This cast is devaluing our fame right now.” –Spencer to NBC producers

“Good news guys, we’re having Sanjaya for dinner. I’m gonna cook him alive.” –Spencer after Sanjaya pretended to steal his cot

“Everyone is just being so mean and they took off all my labels from my dry shampoo.” –Heidi (in tears)

“This is the first time you’re crying on TV that it’s not fake.” –Spencer to Heidi after her breakdown

“I see them all as servants to me.” –Spencer

“I’m a villain, so why wouldn’t I want my brand being negative everywhere, ya know? The bottom line is, when I go see a movie like Batman, does the villain get the academy award or does the sweet little hero get it?’ –Spencer

“Lord Jesus please help me.” –Heidi when she had to eat a rat’s tail.  Because Lord Jesus really needs to help you with that.

“I was just praying it wasn’t what they were telling me it was and just thinking ‘okay, it’s a delicatessen or something.’” – Torrie Wilson while eating tripe and apparently pretending it was an entire deli

“My goal is to be a true disciple of Jesus. A Mother Teresa.” –Heidi

“So I did my first prayer. God, please, the one person I want to go on a double date with is Miley Cyrus. If you’re so powerful make me hang out with Miley Cyrus. He did it within a month.” –Spencer

“Here’s what you’re playing for…” –Host reveals the fish they will win for dinner if they complete the challenge

“Can we choose something else?” –Heidi

“I’m a celebrity get me out of here! I don’t volunteer, I get paid!” -Spencer (who also admitted he chose to represent the largest charity in the world so that when he left it didn’t matter that they didn’t get the money, because they don’t need it as much)

NBC’s Next Big Hit: “Community”

community NBCs Next Big Hit: CommunityJoel McHale (host of “The Soup” on E!) and Chevy Chase star in NBC’s newest comedy, “Community.”  The plot revolves around a group of students at a community college and their relationships with each other.  It might not sound like the most exciting setting, but neither did the setting of “The Office,” and look how that turned out.  The previews for “Community” look great so far, and it’s one of the few shows I’m looking forward to for next season.

Most of the fall lineup that has been announced looks like it might not make it past the first few episodes, but “Community” has a lot of promise.  The characters look funny yet lovable, and the plot seems to have a wide range of possibilities.  I think this might be NBC’s next big thing.

I’m also a bit of a Joel McHale stalker, so he gives me even more of a reason to be excited for the new show.  I’ve never been a huge Chevy Chase fan, but his character seems great and I’m looking forward to seeing him in a recurring television role, which he has never done aside from “Saturday Night Live.”

No word yet on the premiere date of “Community,” but I’ll make sure to stay updated on the progress.  Click Read More to watch the extended preview for the show.
